Blueberries are rich in so-called carotenes, protecting the immune system and the cells of the body against bacteria and free radicals (aggressive environmental substances and metabolism toxins). They contain a considerable amount of Vitamin C helping to fight infections, colds and high levels of stress. Moreover, they contain tannins. But, the main active ingredient of the blueberry is the blue pigment, the Anthocyan, also referred to as Myrtillin.
This natural antibiotic also keeps our blood vessels elastic and supports the formation of blood.
The blueberry was first considered a medical plant by Hildegard von Bingen. The berries help in case of diarrhea, minor digestive disorders, inflammation of mouth and throat and are antibacterial as well as anti-inflammatory.
