Health aspect:

Cranberries contain a great amount of secondary plant substances. Such as the important ingredient Proanthocyanidin. This substance was identified in cranberries as plant substance, responsible for the positive features of the maintaining of health of the urinary tract. The important role of the cranberry Proanthocyanidine was also acknowledged by the French Food Authority AFSSA, which informs that a reduction of the fixing or various Escherichia coli bacteria of the mucous membranes of the urinary tract could be achieved.
Due to the ability of cranberries to hinder harmful bacteria from fixing onto mucous membranes, it is also assumed that e.g. the Helicobacter pylori bacteria are being hindered from affecting the gastric mucosa. Such bacteria are responsible for the emergence of stomach ulcers.

The Vitamin C contained in cranberries has an antioxidant effect and in addition may strengthen the immune system.

In comparison to other fruits cranberries contain many antioxidant agents protecting the cells of the body against an attack from free radicals, accumulating in the body as side product of the metabolic process or by external influences (nicotine, UV-radiation, alcohol, etc. ). Such aggressive molecules damage the free radicals and may be the cause for cancer, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, rheumatic diseases and premature skin aging.
